A little grace for Miss South Carolina

So perhaps, yes, I was a bit harsh in the last post. Based on a number of blogs and news shows (not to mention the judges who voted this candidate in 3rd place...) maybe I was quick to judge this young, uh, scholarship candidate.

But really, where did South Africa and maps come in? Someone please, explain this to me.

As a pastor, the day will come when you are put on the spot "to say a few words" publicly. Maybe it will be an event like a wedding anniversary where everyone appears to be happy but you know the wife has endured a quarter century of private hell. And, as you try to speak in the moment, you will stumble and stammer and try to say something about God's presence at all times. And though you're not a teenager, and though you're well educated and seminary trained, you'll completely blow it. The only saving grace will be that no one taped your speech and posted the grim moment on YouTube.

Well,
I guess I had no idea the nerve this touched- to any I offended with these comments, I do apologize. That was not my intent.

And, to be clear, I don't speak from a position of no fault. I have stumbled and stammered myself. As we all have, I'm sure.

And, by the grace of God, my friends, we laugh at ourselves, forgive others, and continue on.

Again, Mark, I am sorry for any pain I caused.

Curious...I wasn't expecting an apology. I'm only curious how a culture decided to mock a teen who buckled under pressure. It's as though she became a release point for some kind of anxiety we all bear.
